Surfing has been around for decades and is one of the most popular pastimes of beach-goers. It has developed and developed, creating industries, professions and contests for many to join and enjoy. How Do You Go About Skimboarding?

Like most physical activities, training is necessary to perform anything correctly. Riding a skimboard, which is a smaller form of surfboard, the individual uses it to “skim” across the water’s surface. Additionally, the individual may skimboard across wet sand as well.

The first is normal skimboarding, where a skimboarder will start on the beach, catch the wash of a previous wave and then, using their momentum, glide across the water to new waves. Then they catch these waves to return back to the coast, much like surfing. This is the traditional skimboarding and is the more difficult of the two. The other aspect is flatland skimboarding, which is heavily based on skateboarding, but doesn’t involve shore breaks. This is the easier option of the two, yet does provide highly technical movements.

The Dangers

Like many water-based sports, there are many dangers if the individual is inexperienced or reckless. Injuries sustained from incorrectly performed tricks or movements can lead to broken limbs, cuts, scratches, bruises and various other injuries. Due to it being based mainly in shallow water, hitting the ground below the water is also a major possibility. Drowning is somewhat less likely, though if the individual does become unconscious for whatever reason, it can easily happen.
