Voluntary surf life saving is a term that is not used that often. However, this service first began in Australia in the 1900s. Now, these services are being carried out all around the world. Not only does this service involve assisting lifeguards with their general duties, it is also deemed as a competitive sport in many countries around the world as well.
Generally, life guard services are provided in places where open water is present. These places consist of beaches, lakes as well as water parks. Lifeguards will receive paid employment through an agency or other governmental company that hires them. These same life guards will have the right to employ people underneath them on a voluntary basis.
Anyone that is interested in engaging in this type of service is mandated to learn how to properly provide first aide to individuals that require it as well as provide additional rescue services to these same individuals as well. Not only will this training help life guards learn the basics of their occupation it will also teach them how to swim in different water conditions as well as how to save someones life if they are drowning. Every life guard has to go through this training. After the training is completed, they will receive a certificate for it.
There is always a need for voluntary surf life saving individuals. The summer time is usually the prime time when these individuals are called upon, since most beaches and pools open around this specific period. Winter also provides excellent opportunities as the ocean conditions are much rougher. What you miss in crowds on the beach, you make up for with the ocean conditions.
